Salernitana Story Extra: Who Has A Future? (Part 1)

Welcome to the Salernitana Story Extra, a place for little additional tidbits and chat outside of our main story with Salernitana. We’ll kick this off with a series of posts looking at every player we currently have on our books. Up first, the Under 18s…

Strap yourselves in because this is going to be a sizeable post. With 35 youngsters all in the under 18 squad which finished third in the league last season, let’s see just who may make the grade and who is expendable…

Mohamed Aidir
Left Winger, Morocco

Came through the youth intake in 19/20, Aidir has some decent technique and excellent flair but little else. Very much one for the chopping block soon.

Nazaria Ambrosio
Left Winger, Italy

Part of this year’s disappointing intake, Ambrosio has good natural fitness and a bit of pace but very little else. Likely to be gone sooner rather than later depending on squad size.

Francesco Amelio
Right Midfielder, Italy

Quick and can cross a bit but doesn’t have what it takes to make it with us.

Calogero Anelli
Central Midfielder, Italy

Now here’s something we can work with. Great passer for his age and some decent physicals. Some tutoring should set him well on his way to being a solid Serie B midfielder at least.

Alessandro Bartolucci
Right Back, Italy

Another player with something to work with as well. Good defender with a bit of technical ability and some nice mental stats in places. Could be something useful in the future.

Tommaso Bennati
Right Midfielder, Italy

He’s quick and can take a decent long throw. Other than that, he’s one for the future discard pile.

Alessandro Bernard
Left Back, Italy

There’s some decent mentals and physicals to work with. Most likely won’t make it with us but could make a solid career of it in Serie C.

Carlo Cirasino
Centre Back, Italy

FMGrasshopper may enjoy this young man. Plenty of ‘fibra’ about him at just 16 although his physicals and technicals are questionable as is his unambitious personality.

Raffaele D’Alterio
Right Back, Italy

Enthusiastic may be the best description. Plenty work rate and stamina about this young man although he needs a lot of work to be of use to us.

Liberato Di Capua
Full Back, Italy

Versatile is this young man. Not got an impressive set of stats and his personality is hardly promising either. Needs lots of work to get close to making it.

Giuseppe Foglia
Attacking Midfielder, Italy

We don’t use central attacking midfielders at all so Foglia is a little out of place. He’s got some pace and flair so a career on the wings could be in his future, if we work on his crossing. Unlikely to make it though.

Emanuele Franchini
Goalkeeper, Italy

I don’t know what constitutes a promising keeper but I’m pretty sure it’s not this young man. Likely to be chopped sooner rather than later.

Angelo Gaglione
Striker, Italy

He can finish. Other than that, he’s pretty useless.

Stefano Giorgi
Right Winger, Italy

Physically very good. Everything else is a bit meh. Needs lots of work.

Gerardo Giuliano
Centre Back, Italy

He’s not a great young player and he’ll be one that’s heading for the chopping block as well.

Vincenzo Giuliano
Striker, Italy

The other Giuliano is also likely to be gone sooner rather than later. All height and little else.

Walter Iovino
Central Midfielder, Italy

Some nice mental stats here and there don’t hide the fact that he’s not very good and nowhere near our level.

Francesco Leone
Striker, Italy

Our golden boy right now in the youth team. Just earned his first pro contract and could be set for a big future with us.

Antonio Luzi
Right Winger, Italy

Quick and tricky but needs some work if he’s to make a splash for us.

Elia Maiese
Right Midfielder, Italy

That natural fitness is brilliant. Everything else is poor. Unlikely to make it with us.

Leonardo Maio
Left Winger, Italy

Not brilliant but he could improve over the next year or so as he’s still just 16.

Giuseppe Marino
Central Midfielder, Italy

Brave and works hard but only 5’1″? There could be something there but it’s going to take a lot of work to find it.

Massimo Martini
Centre Back, Italy

Never shaken although you may be able to stir him up a bit. Martini has plenty of upside and that’s not thinking of all the horrible puns I can make with him.

Ermanno Matino
Centre Back, Italy

Quick and some decent mentals. Coaches don’t rate him but could have something in him.

Simone Micheli
Goalkeeper, Italy

More well-rounded keeper in my eyes than Franchini but still faces a real battle to make it close to the first team ever.

Fabrizio Ricci
Attacking Midfielder, Italy

Doesn’t fit our system but could play deeper. Some interesting stats may keep him around a little longer than normal.

Giuseppe Romano
Right Back, Italy

He’s OK but there is a lot of work needed if Romano is to succeed at all for us.

Raffaele Serretiello
Centre Back, Italy

The natural fitness is unreal. Everything else is really, really poor. One for the scrapheap.

Alciblade Cipriano Torraca
Centre Back, Italy

Some good mentals and decent technicals mean Torraca looks to have a really large upside for us. Hopefully he develops well and makes it into our side.

Giulio Traviglia
Centre Back, Italy

Aggressive with good positioning and marking, Traviglia looks to be a classy defender in the making. Hopefully there’s a growth spurt in his future too.

Domenico Varrichio
Striker, Italy

Scrapheap bound when he’s no longer needed for squad depth in the youth team.

Roberto Venturi
Central Midfielder, Italy

Nothing hugely stands out but could be a solid player in the making here. Excellent passer of the ball.

Andrea Venturini
Central Midfielder, Italy

Might have two extra letters in his surname but he’s quite as good as Venturi. Needs lots of work.

Sebastiano Vitiello
Left Midfielder, Italy

He’s quick but, other than that, he doesn’t have a huge amount going for him.

Alex Zecchinato
Left Midfielder, Italy

Another one that will make his way onto the scrapheap sooner rather than later.

So as a nice little roundup after all that information I just threw at you, here’s a couple of lists of the key men I think have a future with us:

Definite Stars

Francesco Leone

Massimo Martini

Alciblade Cipriano Torraca

Need A Little Work

Alessandro Bartolucci

Roberto Venturi

That’s it for the roundup of my current Under 18 squad. Are there any players that you think I’m underselling? Any players I’ve overhyped? Let me know in the comments, on Twitter (@LongBallFoot) or on my newly re-opened Slack channel (#longballfoot) where I’ve been bitching about how crap my team currently is.

Until next time…
